Africa as a continent has dawdled for so long in her path to progress. With all her wealth of human and natural resources, this mostly black-dominated continent had remained behind in terms of human and economic development. Growing up, I, just like many others like me, had wondered why this great continent has been out-paced by her counterparts as she had continued to live in their shadows over many decades.
In recent times, the interests indicated by nations of other continents have continued to bring jitters over well-meaning Africans. Each of these foreign nations always comes handy whenever our African leaders show the slightest signal for financial assistance. The lending nations do not waste any time in asking for access to the country's natural resources as a way of paying back such debts. However, our leaders have remained blind that they could not sense 'danger' in such deals.
Why do Africa and Africans have to suffer in the midst of plenty?
African youths make things work
It has become obvious that the undoing of this great continent is the seeming lack, which had driven the leaders of her nations to seek unnecessary financial assistance outside. The lenders themselves, who are always ready to 'assist' at the expense of the borrowers, enjoy the situation more as it portends for them a future opportunity for exploitation. These elders have nothing better to offer hence, the gory condition of most of the nations of the continent. Due to their seeming lack of vision, African leaders who are mostly Septugenarians and Octogenarians, have yet to see the reality of events before them. Their declining age has to a large extent impeded their sense of reasoning since they fail to see anything wrong in ceding the sovereignty of their country to another nation, as was recently quoted by a serving minister in one of the continent's populous nations. They still go ahead sinking their respective countries deeper into debts that would give their lenders a better footing to effectively carry out their ill-plans.
We hence, call upon the reasonable youths of Africa, not those that have been brainwashed into believing that public treasury belongs to them, to wake up from slumber in a bid to change this unwholesome and demeaning narrative of this great continent.
It is time that African youths stopped accepting whatsoever 'favor' that is offered them by these "older folks" and their cohorts as such so-called favors look more dangerous than they seem - more like a Trojan Horse.
Let the youths realize that until we learn to say, "No" to those enticing and "unclean" money presented to us to truncate justice, rig elections through various means including ballot-box snatching and vote-buying, promote useless praise-singing, and many other things youths are paid to do that are insanely immorally and dehumanizing, our respective countries and their institutions and indeed the continent at large, cannot move forward.
It is pertinent that we realize that as long as we keep crawling and depending on nations from other continents to 'assist' us, then it won't be long when those 'helping' nations who are already gradually making inroads into Africa through such devilish financial assistance achieve their objectives.
